The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Patron of the Arts
Information:
This award was established to honour and acknowledge an Island citizen or Island-based business which has made a significant financial contribution in any of the practices of visual arts, writing and publishing, music, dance, fine craft, theatre, film, or video.
The key elements are that the contributions must either be, or have been, part of an ongoing effort to support and advance the arts on Prince Edward Island. Exceptions to this are one-time contributions of extraordinary value. Some evidence should be provided that the patronage or philanthropy used as examples represents significantly more than sponsorship dollars provided in exchange for public recognition.
Amount awarded: $2,000.00
Important Note: The recipient of this award will donate, at the time of the ceremonies, the amount of the award to an organization of his or her choosing that is active in arts and culture.
Criteria for Selection
The principal criterion will be strong evidence of ongoing financial support for arts and culture on Prince Edward Island.
The recipient must be active, or have been active, in the philanthropic community and have been a resident of Prince Edward Island for a minimum of five years immediately prior to the nomination. A person will remain eligible if that person, while having periods of absence from this province during the five years, has maintained in the opinion of the Jurors a substantial connection with the P.E.I. Arts Community and this province.
The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status for a period of not less than three years.
Procedure for Nomination
Any person who is a resident of Prince Edward Island may nominate a person eligible for the award.
Nominations shall be in writing on a form supplied by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts and shall be signed by the nominator and by a seconder who must also be a resident of PEI. A nomination will be incomplete and will be rejected if the nomination form is not completed as prescribed on the form.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 20, 2009. Nominations received after this date shall be rejected.
After receipt of a nomination the Council of the Arts may require additional information on the nominees and, where it requires such information, the Council of the Arts shall give notice in writing of the requirement to the nominator and seconder setting forth a description of the additional information required.
All nominations received by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts become the property of the Council and may be disposed of as it considers appropriate.
