The Minister of Education's Award for Educator in the Arts
Information:
This award was established to honour and acknowledge the excellence of the work of an Island instructor, whether based in a school or in the private sector, who has made a significant educational contribution in any of the practices of visual arts, writing and publishing, music, dance, fine craft, theatre, film, or video.
A key element in this award program is that the recipient is regarded as a professional in the field, either by way of accreditation or by recognition by peers as an accomplished teacher in his or her field. This award can encompass all manner of instruction, from classroom-based violin, to kitchen-based fiddle. An important criteria for success is that the efforts to “educate” in the arts be significant and part of an ongoing practice.
Amount awarded: $2,000.00
Criteria for Selection
The principal criterion will be evidence of a passion for, and excellence in, fostering the arts on Prince Edward Island, through arts education, over a significant period of time.
The recipient must be active, or have been active, in the arts education community and have been a resident of Prince Edward Island for a minimum of five years immediately prior to the nomination. A person will remain eligible if that person, while having periods of absence from this province during the five years, has maintained in the opinion of the Jurors a substantial connection with the PEI Arts Community and this province.
The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status for a period of not less than three years.
Procedure for Nomination
Any person who is a resident of Prince Edward Island may nominate a person eligible for the award.
Nominations shall be in writing on a form supplied by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts and shall be signed by the nominator and by a seconder who must also be a resident of PEI. A nomination will be incomplete and will be rejected if the nomination form is not completed as prescribed on the form.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 20, 2009. Nominations received after this date shall be rejected.
After receipt of a nomination the Council of the Arts may require additional information on the nominees and, where it requires such information, the Council of the Arts shall give notice in writing of the requirement to the nominator and seconder setting forth a description of the additional information required.
All nominations received by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts become the property of the Council and may be disposed of as it considers appropriate.
